Search Engines
The major search engines are Google, MSN, Yahoo, AOL, Ask, and Lycos.
How Do Search Engines Rank?
Search Engines won't know that your site exists until you submit your URL in their database or they crawl a site that has a link to yours.
Search engines use certain criteria to rank your site and this "page rank" will determine how high you're listed in their search results.
- Domain Name Registration. Register for at least two years.
- Popularity. The more sites that link to yours, the better.
- Bad Link Exchanges. If you link to a site that has been banned from search engines, it will hurt your page rank or even get you banned as well.
- Regular Updates. Add small amounts of good quality content to your site regularly.
- Bookmarks. Encourage visitors to bookmark your site.
